If a snow total looks wrong
This is worth reporting, and it is easier to investigate with three things:
- the ZIP code or town, and roughly when the snow fell;
- what SnowDex showed, and for which window (24 h, 72 h or season);
- what you measured, and how — a snow board, a ruler in the yard, a neighbour.
A common and genuine cause of disagreement is comparing different windows: NOAA’s 24-hour totals end at 12:00 and 00:00 UTC, while a storm total you measure runs from the first flake to the last. Snow that settled or drifted also measures less than what fell.
SnowDex is not a warning service. It is not a substitute for official National Weather Service warnings, and it should never be relied on alone for a travel or life-safety decision.
